FPOA Design Tools Overview
MathStar's FPOA design software enables engineers to design, verify, program and debug their algorithms and protocols on the Arrix product family. The design flow uses industry-recognized EDA tools and complements them with MathStar-provided libraries and tools specific to the FPOA architecture. Download MathStar FPOA Design Flow Product Brief
The MathStar FPOA design tool flow begins with design entry using Mentor Graphics’ Visual Elite Integrated Development Environment (IDE). MathStar provides templates demonstrating the different programming options for each of the FPOA Silicon Objects, and users simply edit these templates to configure the ALU, MAC, RF and other objects. MathStar augments the Visual Elite IDE with high-performance simulation models for rapid functional verification of FPOA designs. Visual Elite's built in simulator and waveform viewing tools aid the designer in debugging the design through functional simulation. Co-simulation is also available with Mentor Graphics’ industry-leading ModelSim simulator to verify operation of the FPOA design in conjunction with FPGAs or other components comprising the overall system design.

Once the logic design is completed, the designer proceeds with physical design of the FPOA implementation. MathStar's COAST tool provides a graphical user interface for placement and connection of the Silicon Objects on the Arrix FPOA. COAST allows the user to place the functional blocks and supports routing of the communication paths. COAST also contains a tool to compile the logic design created in Visual Elite with the physical mapping created in COAST producing an FPOA load image file that configures the FPOA.
